What should I do if I receive a traffic or parking ticket ?

The driver is responsible for any traffic ticket that occurred during the rental. But if there is a ticket it will be sent to the address registered on the licence plate.

For Open rentals, the driver is also responsible for infractions received due to bad parking for 48 hours after the end of the rental, however they are not responsible for paying the car parking.

How to contest the infraction ?

For cars registered in France:

2 cases can happen :

1) Ticket is emitted from France

Don’t pay the ticket yourself : you would lose the points associated with the infraction. Follow the contestation flow indicated on your ticket to nominate the driver. You’ll find all the information you need on the driver on the rental page for which you received the ticket, by clicking on : traffic ticket received during the rental. The driver will then receive the ticket at his address and, if necessary, he will be the one to lose license points.

We created a guide to help you through the contestation flow.

2) Ticket is emitted from abroad No loss of point can be applied for a foreign ticket. Here we recommend you to make sure the ticket was received during a rental on Drivy, then pay the ticket. You will then be able to contact us so we can charge the driver for the infraction as long as the rental conditions were respected. To ask us to charge the driver, go to Your rentals > [rental in question] > Traffic ticket received during the rental and follow the steps.

For cars registered in the UK:

There are two possible scenarios:

1) The penalty notice was issued in the country in which your vehicle is registered (UK penalty notice for a car registered in the UK, for example)

You should challenge the penalty notice by following the instructions on the notice (either online or by post). You’ll find all the information you need on the driver on the rental page for which you received the ticket, by clicking on : traffic ticket received during the rental.

The notice should then be issued to the driver – this is known as 'transfer of liability' by the authorities or parking company.

Don’t pay the fine if you are challenging the notice. Usually, paying is seen as an admission that the notice was right, so you won’t be able to challenge it once you've paid.

Warning: you must challenge the notice within 28 days, otherwise you will be responsible for any subsequent legal procedures.

2) The penalty notice was issued outside the country in which your vehicle is registered (French penalty notice for a car registered in the UK, for example)

No penalty points will be given for an offence committed abroad. If you receive a fine, we recommend paying it and sending us the receipt so that we can debit the driver's account as long as the rental conditions have been met. To ask us to charge the driver, go to Your rentals > [rental in question] > Traffic ticket received during the rental and follow the steps.
